This book presents novel design principles and technologies for dynamic isolation based on experimental studies. These approaches have now become the local standard in Beijing and are currently being promoted for use nationwide. Further, the book provides details of measures and guidelines for the design process. Departing from the traditional understanding that isolation wards should be designed with high negative pressure, airtight doors and fresh air, it establishes the basis for designing biological clean rooms, including isolation wards, using a simple and convenient scientific approach.
This book is intended for designers, engineers, researchers, hospital management staff and graduate students in heating ventilation air conditioning (HVAC), air cleaning technologies and related areas.
Importance of negative pressure isolation ward.- Three misunderstandings in design process of negative pressure isolation ward.- Principle and technology of dynamic isolation.- Air distribution design in negative pressure isolation ward.- Determination of air change rate in negative pressure isolation ward.- Safety of exhaust and return air is prerequisite.- Design essentials for negative pressure isolation ward.
XU Zhong-lin is a Senior Research Fellow of China Academy of Building Research. He served as Dean of Department of Air Cleaning Technology at HVAC Institute, Director of Quality Supervision and Inspection Center for Air Cleaning Project at the State Construction Engineering Quality Supervision and Inspection Center, Vice Chairman of Cleaning Technology Sub-committee of China Electronics Association, Invited member of GMP Committee for Ministry of Agriculture, Member of Biosecurity Technical Sub-Committee for Chinese National Laboratory Accreditation Board, etc. He was awarded with the State Council special allowance.
He is the author or co-author of “Air Cleaning Technology Measurements”, “Construction and Acceptance Check Specifications for Cleanroom”, “Construction Standards for Hospital Clean Operating Department”, “Construction Technical Specification for Hospital Clean Operating Department”, “Construction Technical Standard for Military Hospital Clean Operating Department”, as well as national standards for “HEPA Filter” and “Air Filter”.
He continually devoted himself to the research of HAVC and air cleaning technology field over the past decades. He has created the theoretical system of cleanroom. He invented air filters for defense independently, and he was involved in the development of “Complete Equipment for Assembly Isothermal Cleanroom”. In recent years, he has created the concept of mainstream theory and leakage preventing layer theory, which has been successfully applied in the sanitary engineering projects. As for the theory and application problems in the air cleaning technology and engineering, he also made a lot of creative achievements which were more advanced than the research and engineering level abroad. He is one of the pioneers of China’s air cleaning technology, and he has made great contribution to promote the development of air cleaning technology and engineering in China.
He was granted with two National Science Conference Awards, one is National Invention Award, the other one is National Science and Technology Progress Award, and two 2nd Prizes and six 6th Prizes of Scientific and Technological Progress Award at the ministerial level. He owns the rights of 30 patents, including American, European and PCT international invention patents. In 2004, he was one of 14 winners who were granted with “the fifth China Guanghua Engineering Science and Technology Award”.
Dr. ZHOU Bin is an associate professor at Nanjing Tech University, China. Dr. Zhou finished his master and doctoral study at Tongji University in the field of HVAC, and he was supported by China Scholarship Council for the doctoral degree at Politecnico di Torino in the field of air filtration. He has published 6 SCI-indexed papers and 4 EI-indexed papers related to air cleaning technologies. He owns the right of 2 patents. He was one of the translators for the monograph of “From A to ZED”. He has been granted with projects from the Open Fund of the Key Laboratory of Environmental Medicine Engineering of Ministry of Education at Southeast University (No.2010EME006), the National Natural Science Foundation of China (No.51008063), the Post Doctoral Key Research Program from Southeast University (No.3203000601) and Project from the National Science and Technology Pillar Program in the 12th Five-Year Plan Period (No.2011BAJ03B05). He is currently responsible for projects including the National Natural Science Foundation of China (No. 51508267), the Natural Science Foundation of Jiangsu Province (No. BK20130946), Innovative research projects for college graduate students from Jiangsu Province in 2015 (KYLX15_0782) and the Scientific Research Foundation from Nanjing Tech University (No. 44214122). He was one of the editors of the international conference ISHVAC09. He is the member of Chinese Society of Particuology.
